Speaker 1: To find out about bioethanol. I think it's an important conversation. We are very vulnerable Speaker 1: to fuel shocks, and I think we've found that out recently. Ershad Castrata is the Speaker 1: CEO of the Localization Support Fund. Tell us about bioethanol. You're you're pretty chuffed about Speaker 1: the fact that it's finding some traction, that that things have been standing still for Speaker 1: what to two decades now? Tell us about what is finding traction and why are Speaker 1: you so excited? Speaker 2: Irshad, Welcome, Good good morning, Clarence. Always good to be on the show. Thanks for Speaker 2: having me. Yeah, absolutely right. I think we had a really important moment in this Speaker 2: discussion about fuel security in South Africa. We've walked a journey with bioethanols for for Speaker 2: quite some time, but there are a few things that are aligning now which has Speaker 2: you know, raised the stakes but also has increased the opportunity for us to be Speaker 2: able to localize fuel fuel production in South Africa. So I think the first thing Speaker 2: we have to recognize is that I think everyone, as you say, I've woken up Speaker 2: to the fact that So Affrica is incredibly vulnerable to external shocks. We've lost a Speaker 2: lot of our refinery capacity over the last number of years, and at this point Speaker 2: we are importing about seventy five percent of our fuel in refined form, largely coming Speaker 2: from areas of the world like the Gulf, where we've learned that you know, a Speaker 2: few geopolitical shocks and it can really send prices skyrocketing.
