The Speaker 1: conversation turns to the subject of animal abuse today, and I want a touch base Speaker 1: with the SBCA about how they investigate complaints and why it is so important to Speaker 1: report content on social media that features animal abuse when you come across it. Why Speaker 1: are we talking about this today, Well, some very very disturbing social media posts shared Speaker 1: with us a week or so ago by two listeners showing and I'm just going Speaker 1: to summarize because I don't want to go into the details, but just the most Speaker 1: awful abuse of what appears to be a mouse or a hamster erodent of some Speaker 1: type trapped in a vice and being tortured. Let's call it what it is. The Speaker 1: content appears to have been taken down from social media, thankfully since it was shared Speaker 1: with us, but it raises some really important questions about what we do when we Speaker 1: encounter such behavior, what we can do to try and stop the perpetrators in their Speaker 1: tracks, and whether the law is really up to that job. It's a much broader Speaker 1: conversation, of course, than just the aspect of animal cruelty, because we hear so often Speaker 1: that cruelty towards animals is often a precursor towards cruelty towards humans later in life. I know it's something the SBCA sadly deals with regularly, from Speaker 1: investigating complaints and gathering evidence to trying to educate children about compassion and responsibility towards Speaker 1: animals.
