Speaker 1: Family matters, and our family matters feature today. I want us to really look within Speaker 1: our families, because there are certain things that have happened in our families that have Speaker 1: been unkind to us. Things that have also been said, whether by our parents, our Speaker 1: guardians, or siblings, that has been unfair to us. There are people that have experienced Speaker 1: different forms of discrimination even within their families. Whether it's colorism, whether it's sexism, racism, Speaker 1: homophobia, could be anything. There are families that, even as they described they describe themselves Speaker 1: as safe heavens, can also produce some toxicity. And yes, we think of families as Speaker 1: the first places where we learn love, where we're learning longing and identity. But for Speaker 1: some people, home can also be the first place where they encounter subtle or sometimes Speaker 1: very overt forms of discrimination. So it can show up in the way boys and Speaker 1: girls are treated differently, in comments about skin tone, you know that quietly reinforce colorism, Speaker 1: or it could be in cultural or racial biases that shape expectations or in long Speaker 1: lasting beliefs about who deserves opportunity, voice, or validation within that family unit. And these Speaker 1: experiences are really spoken about, but these are the experiences that actually shape our self Speaker 1: esteem. They shape our relationships and even life choices in significant ways.
