NPO: Mandela Day food packing events aim to feed hundreds of thousands

Bobby is a fun development Speaker 2: manager at Food Forward South Africa. Bobby are very good morning and welcome to the Speaker 2: show. Speaker 1: Hi, good morning Africa, and thank you for the invitation. Speaker 2: I'm looking at the impact that Food Forward South Africa has had. In the twenty Speaker 2: twenty five twenty twenty six reporting period. You served eight hundred and sixty two thousand Speaker 2: people daily as far as food is concerned, serving eighty two million meals in total. Speaker 2: That's twenty thousand, five hundred tons of food distributed and all of this costing forty Speaker 2: seven cents a meal. How in Evans name do you do it? Speaker 1: Oh Africa. We do it with a lot of help, a lot of partnership, a Speaker 1: lot of collaborations. So all our food is donated through our food partners, manufacturers, food Speaker 1: retailers, donors, members of the public. Every little bit helps and so donated food is Speaker 1: then sorted stored at our facilities. We have five warehouses across South Africa. We have Speaker 1: a fleet of refrigerated trucks, and we basically collect food that is surplus to requirements, Speaker 1: so food that would otherwise have been dumped and cannot be sold in retail, but Speaker 1: it's perfectly edible, perfectly nutritious food. We go and collect that food, bring it back Speaker 1: into our warehouses and redistribute it to communities in need. And because the food is Speaker 1: donated, we are able to keep the…
