The US Military's New Testosterone Test Mandate

Speaker 1: The Defense Secretary in the us P Texas, said a couple of days ago that Speaker 1: the US military is going to introduce mandatory annual testosterone screening for troops aged thirty Speaker 1: and older. The initiative is aimed, he said, at identifying testosterone deficiency and ensuring that Speaker 1: service members are able to operate and I quote at their absolute best. We join Speaker 1: now by doctor Joel Dave, professor of endrochronology at the University of Fluda SKID. Joel, Speaker 1: Good afternoon, Good. Speaker 2: Afternoon, and thanks for having me on your show. Speaker 1: You know, I mean, apart from whether it's the appropriate thing to introduce mandatory testing Speaker 1: like that, I mean, is is it unarguable that I don't know whether to say Speaker 1: whether somebody with higher testosterone level is going to be a better soldier. Can one Speaker 1: say that somebody with a low testosterone level cannot be a good soldier? Speaker 2: Thanks? John. There's no data to show that as long as your testosterone level is Speaker 2: within the normal range that it means that you're going to be stronger or weaker. Speaker 2: The big problem comes when you push it super physiological. So that's when you know Speaker 2: athletes are doping. What they're trying to do is they're trying to boost their strength Speaker 2: and their endurance and their speed by pushing the testosterone super physiologic. But as long Speaker 2: as you are within the physiologic the normal reference range, there's no data to suggest Speaker 2: that a higher level makes you any stronger than someone with a lower level.
