Garden Route storm update

Speaker 1: Well, we were just talking about the weather and the expectation of further rain in Speaker 1: the Garden Route and into the Eastern Cape. Let's take you there now with me Speaker 1: on the line and Nabill Rylands, who is disaster resilience and spatial information specialist with Speaker 1: Disaster Management Western Cape. And I'm sure many of you saw the alerts going out Speaker 1: about school closures in certain districts of the Garden Roots, Central Carew and Swell and Speaker 1: Dam as more severe weather moved in. Nobill. Thanks for joining us this afternoon. Has Speaker 1: that weather arrived and if so, how severe has the impact been so far? Speaker 2: High? Good afternoon, the other water has arrived. I think we have seen some rain Speaker 2: in the Garden Route as well as in the central Kuru area. I think today Speaker 2: we've seen, you know, in certain mountainous areas more than fifty millimeters of rainfalling already, Speaker 2: which is significant. I think at this time we haven't seen any major incidents as Speaker 2: yet in terms of you know, any people being trapped or cut off for anything Speaker 2: like that. Speaker 1: That's a relief, but yet is the operative word there. Because nobil water that falls Speaker 1: in the mountainous areas makes its way into the rivers and downstream into human settlements Speaker 1: as we saw happen last month. How big a factor is the existing water damage Speaker 1: and sort of water logging that is still there. I mean, I was in the Speaker 1: Binscliff area this past weekend. It was very obvious that there is still a massive Speaker 1: amount of water around. Does that…
