Speaker 1: Today is World Clubfoot Day, so I'm glad we have a chance to catch up Speaker 1: with a local organization that has been working tirelessly for many years now to ensure Speaker 1: that South African clubfoot patients have access to the best possible treatment. Clubfoot is actually Speaker 1: one of the more common musculo scaletal birth defects affecting newborns, and at least two Speaker 1: thousand babies are born with this condition in South Africa every year. Now, it is Speaker 1: extremely treatable and that treatment doesn't even have to be particularly expensive, but it does Speaker 1: work best with early intervention. That is what makes all the difference. Given all of Speaker 1: that, the fact remains that access to treatment is still limited, particularly for families in Speaker 1: rural and underserved areas. With me on the line is Karen Maramoss, who is the Speaker 1: CEO of Steps Clubfoot Care. She has been working in this arena for over a Speaker 1: decade now, working tirelessly to make parents aware of the fact that treatment exists and Speaker 1: how to access it.
